Personal Projects + Artwork

Kathryn Freund is a mixed media artist and creative who works with various modalities: acrylic painting, collage, oil pastels, mixed media and photography. Kathryn holds a B.A. in Visual Arts and English from Fordham University in NYC. She grew up in New Jersey and spent many weekends in high school and college soaking in up-and-coming artists in galleries in Chelsea, SoHo and Chinatown. She spent years as a graphic designer and art director in advertising and also channels her creativity through artwork. In her painting, she loves to capture colors that speak to a connection with the divine and various emotional states. She believes that through painting she can capture the full range of the human experience that is often challenging to put into words. Her paintings often channel emotions of all shapes and colors — joy, passion, grief, resilience, etc. When viewers see her work, she hopes they feel validated, seen, hopeful and know they are not alone.

Kathryn is influenced by artists like Robert Rauschenberg, Martin Kipppenberger, Hilma af Klint, Joan Mitchell, Clyfford Still, Hans Hofmann, Monique van Genderen, Wolfgang Tillmans, Tomashi Jackson, Niko Schi, and so many others.

CREATIVE CLUB: The Creative Process - Shared Learnings & Discoveries

Role: Designer, Copywriter
Medium: Presentation
Tools Used: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva

In 2020 I participated in Jess Grippo’s Creative Club, a 6-month deep dive into the creative process. I went in with the intention of reigniting my creativity and seeing where it took me. What I walked away with was my first art sale, a book idea, and a deeper awareness that creativity is part of every facet of my life.

At the end of the program, we were invited to share a 10-minute showcase of a piece of work or presentation. It was in this program that I realized presentation design and distilling information in a fun and engaging way (beyond those late-night pitch decks and crunched deadlines!) is a creative skill of mine that I deeply enjoy and value.
